Synopsis

The human race's desire to explore the boundaries of the known world drove our ancestors to climb the tallest mountains, conquer the poles and cross vast uncharted oceans before ultimately reaching out into space in the 1960s. Huge rockets were built to allow our space pioneers to travel beyond Earth's orbit and land on the Moon.

But there is another frontier that we have yet to set foot on - Mars. The Red Planet is our next destination; it will be a long process, starting with small scientific bases hidden among craters and ending with enormous self-sustaining cities. But what will the journey from Earth to Mars be like? What will we find when we land? Where will we get oxygen and food?

In this book, you will find answers to all these questions about day-to-day life in a Martian city. Mars offers us the opportunity to start anew - are you ready for lift-off?

Moving to Mars is an incredibly detailed and scientifically visionary book created by the collaboration between amazing graphic designers and scientists who are enthusiastically committed to passing on their incredible technological, space-race knowledge and their exciting, forward-thinking insights to a future new world on Mars itself. The book takes the reader on a futuristic journey where the huge leaps mankind has made on Earth now translates to an intricately detailed and expertly considered project, for mankind to conquer life on Mars.

The book is a wealth of information comparing the climate, atmosphere and planetary conditions of Earth and Mars. Vital questions are asked and answered; if Mars is 96% Carbon Dioxide , then how would humans survive in such toxic conditions? Is there any water on Mars at all, or, if it is below the surface, how would the human race access this for survival? What will the new, Martian race, diet consist of? How do you feel about synthetic food and the growth of Insect Farms as a source of cheap animal protein?

The layout of the book is accessible and engaging, despite the depth of content and the specific language/vocab it contains. Even the stylised orange/red colouring of the book reflects its planetary focus. Button Books are expert at producing fascinating, thought-provoking and fresh non-fiction and take equally excellent care to ensure their books are visually stunning as well as being packed with amazing facts, figures and ideas.

Moving to Mars is non-fiction sci-fi exploration, where dreams/ideas/possibilities are woven into what really feels like a future reality for mankind.
