Synopsis
The hilarious, addictive sequel to YA murder mystery Murder on a School Night by Comedy Women in Print Prize and Carnegie Medal nominated author, Kate Weston.
School outcasts-turned-detective duo, Kerry and Annie, are BACK - and after solving last summer's menstrual murders, they're now known as The Tampon Two. (Kerry is uncomfortable with this level of attention, Annie is refreshing her follower count every two seconds.)
When they attend the Festival of Fame, it's the chance to meet their favourite feminist influencer IRL - along with a host of social media stars, including a tiresome prankster Timmy, super-glam beauty vlogger Celeste and Mystic Millie, who makes very vague predictions. But then one of the influencers ends up dead.
The festival goes into lockdown, Annie is delighted that she and Kerry are trapped in a yurt with celebrities - Kerry is more concerned that there's a killer among them. Will the Tampon Two find out who it is before they strike again?

Murder On A Summer Break is an excellent follow-up to the breakthrough novel, Murder On A School Night by Kate Weston. This page-turning mystery provides another welcome contemporary crime novel for older teenagers and young adult readers who enjoy whodunnits but prefer realisic and relatable story lines and characters.
It is an exciting story with plot twists set at the 'Festival of Fame' and centering on the lives of the 'celebrities'; social media influencers (arranged by Heather, Queen of sixth form's 'Les Populaires') as they bestow their pearls of wisdom on the excited crowds of young fans. Having just solved the 'Menstrual Murders', in the previous book, the main characters, teen detectives and best friends, Annie and Kerry, are looking forward to star spotting and relaxing on their summer break from sixth form.
Our heroes continue to take centre stage in this story but this time their popular friends take a back seat as the characters of the influencers take precedence, along with the joys and challenges of developing romance and friendship. However, it is not long before once again, the 'Tampon Two', are surrounded by death and there are murders to be solved.
Kate Weston has written a topical book which will appeal to readers of contemporary murder mystery fiction. Please note the recommended reading age as content includes mature themes.
