My Dad is a Grizzly Bear is a light-hearted, enjoyable read written by Swapna Haddow. With his fuzzy hair, insatiable hunger, enormous hands and love of nature, dad is obviously a grumpy grizzly bear to a boy with a wild imagination! But sometimes when things are a little scary, all that is needed is a great big bear hug from Dad.
My daughter and I enjoyed the rhythmic tune that this story has when read aloud, and it was only a few pages in that my 4-year old started joining in with the repeated line "because he is a grizzly bear".The clever illustrations by Dapo Adeola, show both reality and how the boy’s imagination portrays dad as a bear. They aided lots of discussion and laughter when we read this heart-warming book.
