Synopsis

Ten-year-old Jamie Matthews has just moved to the Lake District with his Dad and his teenage sister, Jasmine for a 'Fresh New Start'. Five years ago his sister's twin, Rose, was blown up by a terrorist bomb. His parents are wrecked by their grief, Jasmine turns to piercing, pink hair and stops eating. The family falls apart. But Jamie hasn't cried in all that time. To him Rose is just a distant memory.

Jamie is far more interested in his cat, Roger, his birthday Spiderman T-shirt, and in keeping his new friend Sunya a secret from his dad. And in his deep longing and unshakeable belief that his Mum will come back to the family she walked out on months ago.

When he sees a TV advert for a talent show, he feels certain that this will change everything and bring them all back together once and for all.

I would recommend this book as it is enjoyable to read and is well written. At times though, it is tragic and upsetting, but the book never gets boring, something interesting and exciting is always happening, there's never a dull moment.

Even though this book is quite depressing it is very well written and explains between the lines not to judge people just because of what they are, but because of what they are like.

I would recommend the book because it is well written and explains how the loss of some one close can effect how a family live. I recommend to whoever is reading the book to read with tissues because the book has many turns.

Rosie - Age 13

I loved this book because it is one of the few books that have made me cry. Yet it still has an uplifting theme of hope which carries you through the sad moments. I couldn't put this book down but not because it is action packed, not because it is frightening and not because its exciting just because you can't stop reading until you know Jamie will be OK. Another thing I love is how contemporary issues such as racism, divorce and terrorism are explored through the eyes of a family effected by all of them. A really great book and I can't wait for the next book by this new writer.
