Reviews

Natalie J

Rewild this Book is special. Created with The National Trust it is bursting with activities to do in a natural environment. The huge array of activities makes this book suitable for any age. Some are easy for pre-school children to do by themselves, such as colouring minibeasts, other activities are perfect for older children such as sketching the sky. Some as an adult I would enjoy doing, like raindrop painting.

Messy activities include painting with sand or berries; thoughtful ones include recording noises you hear; energetic activities include mud throwing onto a target page; and mindful ones include searching for the largest leaf. Some are traditional, like making a daisy chain, and others are just plain weird or inspired (depending on your point of view), including rolling the book down a hill or having a snail race across the racetrack page.

It is wildly encouraged to make a mess of this book; that is the point of it - cut holes into the page to make binoculars or a star guide, get grass stains on it, catch snowflakes on a page, stick petals and grass on another to create a picture. Printed on biodegradable paper with vegetable ink, once completed you are then encouraged to plant the book and return it to the wild.

The clear writing and lovely, bright illustrations tell you exactly how to do the activities. With safety warnings and any equipment needed included, this is a brilliant, absorbing, thoughtful book which will capture all imaginations.
