One Dog, Two Dogs: A lift-the-flap, pop-up book with 20 dogs to count!

A lovely interactive picture book to begin counting! This book has lovely, bright illustrations to attract little eyes. The colours pop from the pages and there's all sorts of different shapes and sizes of dogs to look at. Every page has flaps to lift and I like that they are all different shapes, sizes and positions. This is a great way for small children to develop their fine motor skills and it keeps them guessing of how/where to find and lift the flaps. The numbers are all in bold which helps them to stand out too.

Our favourite spread is 'Fifteen digging dogs' where the whole page pops out. My three-year-old loves the element of surprise where the digging dogs jump off the page. We also love the final spread where three rows of sleeping dogs jump out off the page for the same reason.

One Dog, Two Dogs is a great book to use with small children who are just beginning to learn to count. It gives them plenty of opportunities to practice is a low pressure setting and fun environment. This would be ideal for young siblings to share; the youngest readers can develop their initial fine motor skills while slightly older siblings can access the counting practice while all enjoying the funny dog content. A lovely book to have at home for any baby, toddler or preschooler!

One Cat, Two Cats is my little book-buddy, Esme's, favourite book. Every time I see her, I am presented with it and I enjoy sharing it every bit as much as she does! So you can imagine how delighted I was when One Dog, Two Dogs arrived this morning! Just as colourful and appealing, this is going to be every bit as popular as its cat companion!

The book follows the canine capers of 20 adorable dogs. There are plenty of flaps to lift and pop ups to enjoy, making sharing the book a very interactive, fun experience. The simple rhyming text recounts the dogs activities as they build from one to 20, encouraging early counting.

Each dog has a collar with their number on a tag helping children to recognise cardinal numbers. As children gain confidence with these, they could be asked to find dog number 2, for example. The illustrations are also perfect for developing colour recognition or prepositions - which dog is on the log? where is the dog with the purple tail? and so on. Some spreads lend themselves to playing memory games- covering one and asking a child to describe it or work out which number is missing!

These playful pooches are just delightful, perfect for naming and creating adventures for, developing story telling skills as well as a love of reading! The sturdy construction of the book means it will withstand the repeated readings I know will be expected! I can't wait to share this one with Esme!
