Synopsis
Pandora lives alone, in a world of broken things. She makes herself a handsome home, from all that people had left behind, but no one ever comes to visit. Then one day, something falls from the sky... a bird with a broken wing. As Pandora nurses the bird back to health, it begins to fly away each day, bringing a seed or small plant with him. Then one day, the bird doesn't come back. Pandora is heartbroken. However, day by day, things begin to grow... This is a stunning fable of hope and regeneration from critically acclaimed artist Victoria Turnbull.

Pandora is a touchingly beautiful story which focuses on a fox type creature named Pandora who lives alone in a land of broken objects. It is a land of desolation. Her small house sits balanced on tall silts within the sombre landscape which is devoid of any bright colour. Within this setting Pandora has made herself a comfortable home which is decorated with delicate pastel colours. although she seems content she lives here alone and does not have any visitors. She spends her days repairing broken objects which she tries to bring back to life. Her lonely life continues like this until one day an injured blue bird arrives and she gradually nurses the tiny creature back to life. The delicate illustrations reflect the joy that the bird gives to Pandora as it gets stronger. However, one day the blue bird does not return after one of its flights and, as one can imagine, Pandora is devastated. But all is not lost because gradually her world changes from a broken one to one which is living and full of colour with the returned blue bird as her constant companion. This story will become a real favourite with Key Stage 1 children as there is so much to talk about and explore within the story and delightful illustrations.
