Penguins are ALWAYS perfectly polite. They wait their turn, they share their toys and they never forget to say please or thank you!
But then Polly the not-so-polite penguin decides that being polite is BORING! And when the other penguins start to agree... Uh oh! It's chaos!
Packed with hilariously characterful illustrations from Ekaterina Trukhan (10, 9, 8... Owls Up Late! and A Quiet, Quiet House), this laugh-out-loud picture book story is perfect for helping little ones to understand the importance of manners!

Penguins are perfectly polite creatures - until they aren't... This picture book follows a bunch of beautifully behaved penguins until they are inspired by naughty penguin Polly to misbehave and to be very naughty indeed - talking with their mouths full, not waiting their turn and interrupting people as they are speaking. Even the best behaved penguins are behaving very badly - until Polly realises that her little brother, Peter, has been frightened by all the noise and it's up to her to put things right. This story reminded me of Steve Antony's Please Mr Panda books, although these have a more complex story that covers all sorts of manners, not just saying 'please' or 'thank you'. It's definitely a story to reach for when squabbles and misbehaviour break out, to remind children that it only needs one of them to behave badly for all the others to start behaving badly, too. Perfectly Polite Penguins reminds us what manners are for and how bad things can get if we all misbehave. It's a fun story with a strong message about being polite.
