There's something about an oversized book which makes them even more exciting and appealing to look at! Pip and Posy's Big Book of Words has a rainbow-coloured key down one side with pictures of objects which are clues to the topics covered on each page. This is a great way for toddlers to begin to learn object association with everyday topics such as the house, the garden and bedtime/bathtime.

Each page has beautifully illustrated pictures in the usual Pip and Posy style, which are littered with key words to name some of the objects hidden within in them. They also have smaller pictures around the outside, showing some of these objects with more detail. This will be great as my baby starts talking; the words are in very clear text and he will be able to begin to recognise the shape of the letters in the key words as he sees pictures of everyday objects that he already knows.

We have just been on holiday so I have really enjoyed showing my baby the 'Sunny Seaside' spread. I have been able to point out familiar objects he may recognise from his holiday such as a bucket and spade, ice creams and sandcastles. There are also flaps to lift which are always a great way for babies to be able to interact more with their books! The final page is great for young children's development; it covers key learning topics such as shapes, colours and numbers which will help to give any child an understanding of the basics before they start school.

Pip and Posy's Big Book of Words would also be great to use in an Early Years classroom. Many of the topics in the Early Years curriculum involve learning about everyday places, people and objects, so it could be used in small groups, picking out certain objects to focus on and learn more about. It also has key questions on each page which would be useful to discuss in whole class or small group settings.
