'Let's go and play' dog or 'had a bad day' dog? This beautifully illustrated board book helps to teach readers exactly what their favourite canine is trying to tell them. The author Dr Jess, vet and TV presenter, loves all animals and is passionate about the importance of protecting the natural world in which we all live. Puppy Talk is a friendly and funny first board book about dog and puppy body language she provides the perfect introduction to living with dogs and puppies for young children.

The child friendly illustrations and rhyming text, help the reader to understand how to read a dog's body language and what their pet might be trying to tell them through their tail wags, ear position and more! This is a great introductory book for new young pet owner and their parents. We used this in our Reception Classes when discussing with the children how to care for animals, including pets. The blurb on the back of the book 'People can use words to tell us how they are feeling but dogs and puppies can't. They talk using their bodies instead' provided us with a great starting point for our discussions.

Children used the illustrations to provide us with examples of when they have seen dogs showing these different feelings. We linked it with our feelings and how we feel if we are in a 'don't want to talk mood' for example. The book also provides tips and Golden Rules for children on how to interact safely with their dog, to help them quickly become the best of friends.
