Jane

Remarkable Women: Fascinating Facts You Never Knew About Amazing Women! succeeds in engaging readers by asking questions that challenge our assumptions (Pocahontas was a princess, wasn't she? Marie Antoinette said 'Let them eat cake!', didn't she?) and extend our knowledge with surprising 'did you know?' prompts. There's humour too, in abundance, both in the illustrations and in the text which, together with attractive and helpful design elements (speech bubbles, varied fonts, bold typeface, etc), make it a pleasure to read. The concluding Timeline, Map and Glossary are all helpful additions.

Like its sister title, Nature: Fascinating Facts You Never Knew About the Natural World!, this is one to dip into again and again. Teachers may find it useful too for displays and assemblies about famous figures (both contemporary and historical) who demonstrate school (growth mindset, perseverance, courage) or British values. I shall also be recommending it to KS2 children (ages 8+), especially those who enjoy biographies and non-fiction, as there's plenty of general knowledge to be gained here.
