Snowglobe 2 brings a gripping conclusion to the ground breaking Snowglobe duology, a dystopian series set in a world ravaged by climate disaster. Exploring themes of surveillance, reality TV, genetic engineering and class inequality, this novel delivers a thought-provoking and compelling continuation of Jeon Chobahm's journey.
The story follows the Haeri girls on their fight against the creators of Snowglobe and the powerful Yibonn family. A sharp divide exists between the privileged residents of Snowglobe - whose lives are broadcast as entertainment - and those outside, who toil to sustain that luxurious lifestyle. As Chobahm seeks to uncover the hidden truths behind the system, dark secrets emerge, and a constant sense of mistrust adds to the growing tension.
Soyoung Park masterfully weaves a narrative full of twists, surprises and originality. A winner of the Original Story Award and Changbi X Kakaopage Young Adult Novel Award, she has a remarkable talent for building suspense. I was constantly trying to guess what would happen next. I absolutely loved the weather forecasting segment of the book, where viewers get to nominate their own unique and potentially catastrophic weather events to be unleashed upon the dome once a year.
Snowglobe 2 wraps up the series in a satisfying way. Translated seamlessly from Korean, the English version reads flawlessly. The tension builds throughout. The heat is certainly rising! A memorable read, this is a must for fan of dystopian fiction.
