Sports Day is one of a selection of titles from Bloomsbury Education's Young Reader programme. This story is all about the importance of having fun with your friends - a great moral for all children to read about. Emmie is preparing for sports day, however, she is worried that is going to be no good at any of the races. With her friends, Emmie tries out lots of different races and decides she is still no good at any of them. As Emmie's teacher has an important chat to her, she remembers the importance of enjoying yourself and how you don't always have to do things that you know you are really good at! This is a really important lesson for all children and links really well with Growth Mindset - something that is vital to succeeding! This story has some lovely illustrations, as well as some relatively challenging vocabulary and punctuation for children aged 5+. It also has notes inside the front cover to allow all adults to engage in discussion with their child while they are reading, as well as suggested activities for children to complete in the back cover. 48 pages / Ages 5+ / Reviewed by Lucy Newton, teacher.
