What an absolutely fantastic book! Sports Legends, 50 Inspiring People includes a selection of tales from well known athletes who at different stages in their lives have overcome a variety of challenges and issues in order to achieve their goal and ultimate sporting fame. Negative body image, injury and disability, conquering fear, self doubt and racism are just some of the issues that well known names such as Jesse Owens, Katarina Johnson-Thompson, Usain Bolt and Lionel Messe have not only faced but also over come to finally achieved their celebrity and international recognition.

This book will convince any reader of the power of growth mindset in achieving goals. Potential readers may be mistaken in believing that this will only appeal to sports enthusiasts as clearly the book is based on the experiences of a number of sporting legends; however, the challenges they face could just as easily be faced by anyone, not just those interested or involved in sport. Finding out how challenges such as a paralysing stroke, while life changing, aren't necessarily insurmountable, providing you have the right mind set.

This book provides its reader with ideas that everyone could adapt and consider to help develop a 'growth mind set'. Although this book is clearly written for a Key Stage 2 audience, I have no doubt that it will be just as readable for many adult readers. I've already had to hide my copy from my school sports department staff and have also recommended it to my Headteacher for his future assemblies. A great read.
