The Colour Of The Sky is a lovely story about a boy who loves the colour of the sky. One day his Opi shows him his kite from when he was little but when they take it out to fly, the wind is too strong and it flies away! Together, Poya and Opi build a new kite together.
The illustrations are lovely, they're watercolours and lovely to look at; I think you could create some beautiful art in a classroom inspired by them! It's a gentle book, the words flow easily and my five-year-old enjoyed listening to it. It's one I'd share in an EYFS or KS1 classroom and hope that it would lead to a discussion about their own experience of seeing colours in the sky or flying kites.

Most of us marvel at the different colours that the sky turns throughout the day and the seasons. We wonder how it is possible, and why. Most children want to touch everything that they can see and the sky, with its beautiful colours, is no different. This story depicts this longing along with the palpable relationship between the young boy (Poya) and his Grandfather (Opi).
The beautiful illustrations throughout The Colour of the Sky convey the changes in the weather and the movement as the wind increases. They communicate the characters' feelings and add depth to the text. This story will have every reader wanting to make and fly a kite - and I look forward to seeing them fly.
In the classroom, I would use this story as part of a PSHE lesson or as the start of a DT project to design and make a kite - which I did for years with my Year 2 classes. This beautiful story is a pleasure to read and will bring much joy to so many. It would be a wonderful story at anytime of day and a wonderful addition to any classroom.
