Synopsis

Amidst island tales of long-lost fairies and pirate chickens, Tia discovers the true magic of the elusive storm petrel in this uplifting tale of conservation from Gill Lewis.

Long-lost fairies hiding near the lighthouse? Chickens belonging to a sea witch that warn sailors of coming storms?

There are a lot of wild stories going about as some tall ships seek shelter in Gull Have Bay. Tia and Nat don't believe any of them to begin with. But when Nat's dad helps unravel the truth, they learn about a seabird that's in danger.

Can Tia and Nat find a way to help, and will it allow them to rediscover the magic of the real world all around them in their island home?

Particularly suitable for readers aged 7+ with a reading age of 7.

Reviews

Amanda

'This world is more magical than we can ever know.' Storm Bird Magic is a well planned and thought-through story where magic, science and adventure combine to create a must read for all young chapter book readers.

Although the reading level of this story is aimed at the young chapter book reader, the content would also be appropriate for slightly older readers who have discovered a joy in reading. Barrington Stoke books are printed on buff paper in a dyslexia friendly font to encourage all readers to be confident in accessing these adventures.

The topics of friendships, conservation, island life and learning from others in the story would seamlessly link to many areas of the curriculum including geography and science. Storm Bird Magic would also make a wonderful class reader or a group focus book - if you can resist not having it purely as a reading for pleasure book.

The Island Vet series is a firm favourite in our library and I know that this one will be no different. I look forward to reading more Island Vet adventures.
