A visit to Nana and Grandad's house for the summer holidays always involves Lana and younger brother Harrison's favourite game - playing in the nearby Hollow Tree . This 'magical' tree is where generations of children before them have loved to play imaginative, carefree and memory-making games. This summer there is sad news for the siblings; the tree and surrounding area are under threat from developers and it is due to be chopped down. Not only will they lose their favourite place in the world to play, the rare Golden Bell spiders who inhabit the marshes nearby will entire lose their habitat. Will the promise of a new adventure playground tempt Lana and Harrison to accept this dramatic change perhaps …? Then a mysterious golden thread leads the pair through the Hollow Tree into another world entirely; Lana and Harrison stumble into a storybook land of snow, wind, strangely familiar characters and, of course, a dangerous monster.
