Reviews

Sue

The Secret Life of Bugs, Bees and Trees combines three previous books, The Secret Life of Bugs, The Secret Life of Bees and The Secret Life of Trees, in one attractive volume. Buzzwing the bee, Luna the ladybird and Oakheart the oak tree share lots of information about their lives, interspersed with traditional tales from around the world.

Facts about the natural world are clearly presented, explaining things like how bees make honey, how insects can see and how trees communicate. Each page is beautifully illustrated and includes labelled diagrams and sequenced sections to support understanding.

In each section, the narrator challenges the reader to locate something. Buzzwing offers a finding game, Oakheart shares a selection of riddles and Luna leaves a trail of teeny-tiny bug facts. There is so much to enjoy whilst learning about the natural world.

A lovely range of stories is offered, most of which have some discussion points, writing ideas or additional information. The book would be an excellent resource for teachers, enabling them to enrich the curriculum and inspire children's curiosity in the world around them.
