Another fantastic tale from one of my favourite children's authors, Nick Butterworth. The Treasure Hunt is another successful picture book from this world famous author, with humorous but heart-warming tale of love, compassion and friendship. The Treasure Hunt tells the tale of Percy leaving out a Treasure Hunt for the Park animals. The Park animals all gather excitedly to follow the clues Percy has left out for them, collecting and working out clue by clue. But leaving all the clues out for the animals has made Percy hungry, when he find in his pocket a bag of chocolate coins 'wrapped in gold paper'. Slowly Percy eat the chocolate, bit by bit, when he realises what he has done - he has eaten all the treasure! By now the animals have collected most of the clues when they start to become confused and bump into a cow that frightens them, although she only wants to play. When the animals are finally calm, Percy introduces the animals to Lucy the cow as the animals exclaim they didn't find the treasure. The fox announces, 'we didn't find the treasure, but we found a new friend'. Not only is this story an engaging tale full of excitement and fun, the illustrations truly bring this tale to life. The Park animals are so animated, they look almost human and it is easy for young children to follow the story based on the images alone. The artistry is bright, colourful and beautifully hand drawn, my children took great delight in picking out all the little details in the images. One of my favourite features in the series is that each story has a different pull out feature to further engage the children. Alongside this, The Treasure Hunt also has a treasure hunt of its own, as hidden in the story are 3 gold coins that Percy has dropped. We had great fun as a family studying each picture of the gold coins. Perfect for parents and teachers alike, this story is an absolute must for every book shelf.
