Reviews

Donna

The Witches is the first-ever Dahl story to appear in this format. It is a must for anyone who has read The Witches and also those who are new to Roald Dahl.

Eisner Award winner Penelope Bagieu has executed the powerfulness of the story expertly. The illustrations are absolutely amazing at bringing to life the characters from the story.

Grandmamma is one of my favourites, with her droopy jowls, over-sized glasses and, of course, cigarette. Bagieu has captured her personality brilliantly. Another of my favourite illustrations is of the Grand High Witch when she meets the other witches at the meeting of the RSPCC. The build up to the Grand High Witch's true identity is amazingly drawn - gloves removed, shoes removed, finally the wigs! It is only then that we see her hideous face! Be prepared!

As someone who grew up reading only comics, this truly is a wonderful read. I would have thoroughly enjoyed reading this as a child. I hope there will be more Roald Dahl books made in this format.
