Ariella and Yosef notice that their school librarian keeps coming back to the library covered in mud. They can't resist investigating and end up transported back in time to Georgian London, where they meet the founder of their school.

Time Travel at Puddle Lane is split into chapters with a fair amount of text on every page - some pages have illustrations. It's marked as a 'Dark Blue' book band level and would suit able Lower Key Stage 2 readers. Similar to the others in the 'Bloomsbury Young Readers' series, this isn't your usual 'dry' book scheme book. It's packed full of action, whilst also being educational.

I think this could be a great class text too as there are so many things that could be shared and discussed within it. Cleverly woven into the story are many opportunities for learning and discussing different parts of history - from the point that the school was established at a time when only the rich and mostly boys were able to benefit from education, to the slave trade and ending with the lack of hygiene in medicine at the time. Many different parts of society are evident in the book and, as the main characters are Jewish, there are opportunities to discuss various parts of Judaism as a faith - for example the characters refuse buns back in Georgian London, incase they contain pork lard which would make them not kosher. The vocabulary in the book is quite subject specific - words such as chronology and circa are talked about by the characters, a great way for children to learn technical vocabulary.
