When Creature Met Creature is a powerful picture book about communication and friendship, crafted by the award-winning author-illustrator duo of John Agard and Satoshi Kitamura. Creature-of-No-Words lives a happy life on his own, but one day he gets a feeling like "the chill touch of ice", and nothing can lift his sadness. But then Creature-of-Words arrives and senses his despair. How can she help him communicate and become happy again?

This book's wonderful narrative follows two very different creatures develop a mutual understanding and a way to communicate. This beautifully illustrates how creatures with differences can be friends and learn to live harmoniously together. This would help discussions and develop understanding of Neurodiversity and pupils with different needs. In school I would use this for Emotional Literacy Teaching Assistants (ELSA), small group reading and discussion groups in order to make the most of the wonderful language and themes. This could be enjoyed as a whole class story or bedtime book but I feel its strength is in the questions and conversations that can be generated.
