Sam

Picking up the story right where book 1 finished, Wintour's Fate is a super fast-paced, all-action adventure. However, if you haven't read the first book in this trilogy, then you may well find yourself rather lost for the first four or so chapters.

Wintour's Fate jumps straight into the action, and we meet Alex, the book's main protagonist, recovering from some sort of horrific accident. Exactly what has happened is hinted at but will only be completely clear to those who have read the first book, Wintour's Game.

Alex is a Temporal - someone who can manipulate time - and her existence and that of the Temporal world are under threat. She will need to use her powers of seeing the future and manipulating minds to save those she cares for. Alex also comes to realise that her determination and drive to do what she thinks is right is not always popular with her friends.

Once again, the plot is quite complex, and some readers may struggle to follow. This book is definitely aimed at more confident readers, although I have no doubt that if you were a young teen fortunate enough to have someone to read this to, or with you, then it would be a real treat! I am sure that it won't be long before this fabulous adventure is turned into a short series for TV, as the all action imagery is exceptional.

Reading for pleasure often 'takes a back seat' in KS3, as most school focus on analysing literature in preparation for GCSE's. Hopefully, they will carve some space for Wintour's Fate which will inevitably generate numerous questions about family and friendship, leadership and trust - but more importantly, it is a WHIIPCRACK-ing read! I wait with bated breath to see what happens in the final Alex Wintour adventure.
