Author Aisling Fowler joined the ReadingZone Bookclub to give a workshop on Fantasy Writing and to introduce her new book, Fireborn.

Aisling Fowler's fantasy novel, Fireborn, is the first in a trilogy that takes us to world of frozen mountains, magical creatures, and dark treachery....

In this virtual workshop, Aisling discusses the genre of fantasy, including the characteristics of fantasy writing, developing plots and characters, and world building. She also sets a creative challenge to start students thinking about their own character and world.

The workshop runs for 45mins and includes a Q&A session at the end with schools present at the workshop, where Aisling answers their questions.

"Fireborn is an exciting, action-packed and magical adventure from debut author Aisling Fowler. A classic quest with a tantalising darkness, this novel is a must-read for ages 11+. The pace is fast, the fantasy setting well drawn and the character development very believable. Themes of grief, friendship, guilt and relationships are woven effortlessly into scenes of battle and magic. Highly recommended!"

"The first spark of Fireborn's story came to me while I was watching my husband play a computer game called Horizon Zero Dawn. The main character, Aloy, is such a brilliant heroine and I wondered why I wasn't writing character like that; girls who were strong and brave and fierce. Almost immediately Twelve came to me. At first, all I knew was that she fought monsters with her axes and was full of a fiery anger. It was in trying to unpick where that anger came from, what had caused it, that the rest of the world, the Hunting Lodge and the clans came into being."
