BBC seeks the authors of tomorrow

The BBC Young Writers' Award 2017 is open for submissions and is looking for stories up to 1,000 words from young people aged 14 to 18. The closing date is 21 April.

This year's judges include radio presenter Alice Levine, author and journalist Holly Bourne, and Nikesh Shukla, editor of Rife Magazine. The award is open to young people aged 14 to 18, who live in the UK. The judges are looking for a short story of up to 1000 words on any topic that shows imagination and creativity. The five shortlisted stories will be announced on Saturday 30 September 2017 and the overall winner of the BBC Young Writers' Award 2017 will be announced at an awards ceremony broadcast live on Radio 4's Front Row on 3rd October 2017. The winner will have their story broadcast on BBC Radio 1 and will receive a personalised mentoring session with an author to help develop their writing skills. All five shortlisted writers will be given a guided visit around BBC Radio 1 in Broadcasting House. The deadline for receipt of entries is 5pm, Friday 21 April 2017.
