Podkin One Ear and Survivors have won this year's Blue Peter Book Awards. Both tell stories of struggle and strength and both are published by Faber & Faber.

The winner of Best Story is rabbit adventure tale Podkin One Ear, written by Kieran Larwood and illustrated by David Wyatt. David Long's Survivors, an anthology of incredible true stories illustrated by Kerry Hyndman, has been awarded the Best Book with Facts prize. Best Story Winner Podkin One Ear By Kieran Larwood, illustrated by David Wyatt A mysterious storyteller rolls in from the snow one night and enchants a warren of young rabbits with the tale of Podkin One Ear: the son of a chieftain who went on to become a legend. This is the first instalment of what promises to be a rather epic rabbit saga. Best Book With facts Winner Survivors: Extraordinary Tales From the Wild and Beyond By David Long, illustrated by Kerry Hyndman For as long as people have looked for adventure, some have also found danger... And here are the stories of survival, gloriously written by David Long and sublimely illustrated by Kerry Hyndman: from Juliane Koepcke, the 17-year-old girl who fell from the sky in Peru as the only survivor of a plane crash above the rainforest, to Aron Ralston, who cut off his own arm after being trapped by a fallen boulder in a canyon in Colorado USA (inspiring the movie 127 Hours). An anthology to inspire and help us understand how far self-belief and guts took these adventurers, and to wonder how far these qualities could take us, too. This was the full shortlist, which was announced in December: Best Story shortlist: Time Travelling with a Hamster by Ross Welford (HarperCollins) Podkin One Ear by Kieran Larwood, illustrated by David Wyatt (Faber and Faber) Lost Tales by Adam Murphy and Lisa Murphy (David Fickling Books) Best Book with Facts shortlist: Survivors: Extraordinary Tales From the Wild and Beyond by David Long, illustrated by Kerry Hyndman (Faber and Faber) Destination Space by Dr. Christoph Englert, illustrated by Tom Clohosy Cole (Wide Eyed Editions) Football School: Where Football Rules the World by Alex Bellos and Ben Lyttleton, illustrated by Spike Gerrell (Walker Books)
