While many author visits had to be cancelled during the spring and summer terms, many schools have continued with online events and organisation Authors Abroad is offering a range of 'virtual visit' options.

The company has been working with schools to reschedule many planned author events to the autumn. MD Trevor Wilson praised schools for the flexibility, and loyalty, and said, "Our authors are most grateful!" He added, "We are looking at ways to help provide new and exciting opportunities to engage with your children. We have asked all of our vast network of authors, poets, illustrators, storytellers etc to prepare virtual visit options until we get back to something resembling normality and they can visit you in person." Autumn events with authors can be booked as usual by emailing [email protected] However, a range of virtual visits are also available, he added. "We have now developed an extensive library of virtual resources covering all ages and genres that I believe is the best available in the country. "These can be for a whole year group, a class size or one-on-one sessions. They can be for an hour session or spread out throughout the day." Schools might want to use some of the additional 1billion funding promised by governement to support schools in their efforts to make sure no children are disadvantaged due lack of normal schooling during lockdown. "Authors are very happy to work over the summer period if you are operating a summer school or running catch-up sessions," said Wilson. In addition to author/poet/illustrator support, Authors Abroad also offers specialist Maths and Science tutoring through its existing Able Maths and Science Programme, working with Maths and Science consultants in the UK.
