James and the Giant Peach will be the focus of celebrations for this year's Roald Dahl Day on 13 September with an online show, links with the Natural History Museum and a Roald Dahl Day Party Pack available via the link, below.
James and the Giant Peach reminds us 'that friends can come in the most unexpected forms and arrive in the most surprising and magical places', says publisher Puffin. 'We'll be celebrating that friendship and shining a light on those magical minibeasts who become James' friends and travelled across the Atlantic with him.' Activities this autumn - with a special focus on mini-beasts - will include: - PUFFIN VIRTUALLY LIVE - the annual Roald Dahl Show streams live at 14:00 GMT on September 13th but is also available 'virtually live' afterwards. Guests will include comedian, actor and author Adrian Edmondson and Rachel White, an archivist from the Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre, together with scientists from the Natural History Museum. - James and the Giant Peach weekend at the Natural History Museum for families, where children can explore the natural world, as featured in the story, on 8th-9th September. Look out for real specimens and learn more about the fascinating real lives of James' minibeast friends. - A special party pack for schools, libraries, bookshops and community groups to mark Roald Dahl Day which is free to download from the link, below. As well as the James and the Giant Peach-themed pack, there is also a pack for pre-schools focused on The Enormous Crocodile. - Forestry Commission sites across England running James-themed events over weekends in September and into October half-term, including peach volleyball, centipede races and crafting creatures. - Teachers - and children - will also be encouraged to take part in a 'Dahlicious' Dress Up Day, dressing up as Roald Dahl Day characters to raise funds for Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity to support seriously ill children.
