A free book, Rain Before Rainbows by Smriti Halls and illustrator David Litchfield, which helps address children's concerns during lockdown, has been made available online by Walker Books.
The picture book for children aged three to six years is published in partnership with Save the Children's #SaveWithStories campaign. The #SaveWithStories campaign aims to raise money for the children most affected by the Coronavirus pandemic, by helping to provide early learning packs, supermarket vouchers, essential household items and virus protection and Walker Books is encouraging donations to the cause. The book will be available to download for free for a limited time from all eBook retail platforms and the Walker Stay At Home Hub and actor Rafe Spall will be reading the book in full on Save the Children's Instagram page. The picture book follows a girl and her companion fox as they journey through uncertain times, towards the hope of colour, light and life. Along the way, they find friends to guide and support them and together, they discover there is a way out of the darkness, into the light of the rainbow. Walker Books said in a statement, "The rainbow has become an incredible symbol of hope and optimism during this time and we hope that this story's positive message will resonate and bring comfort to any children or families suffering with anxiety, stress or sadness."
