Free online event to mark Michael Rosen Day, 13 November 2025

Michael Rosen Day, which will take place on Thursday 13th November, is a chance to celebrate one of Britain's most beloved poets, and to help create a buzz around reading, listening to and writing poetry. The theme for this year's Michael Rosen Day is Funny Food: A Feast of Poems.

Schools can now register for a free online event with Michael Rosen, which is taking place in partnership with Read for Good and schools can register for the event here and find further information about the event, competition and resources at Walker Books.

Publishers are making available free resources for schools, libraries, bookshops and families, full of book-based ideas and activities to bring Michael's work and poetry to life wherever you are. Register to receive the resources.

Enter the poetry competition

A new children's poetry-writing competition is also being launched with categories for 5-7s and 8-12s to #ShareAPoem and pen their own funny food-themed poems inspired by tips from Michael Rosen. Prizes include a signed Michael Rosen book bundle for the poet and their school, and the winner's poem will be read out by Michael at the live event on the 13th.

Research by the National Literacy Trust has shown that over 51% of young people do not currently engage with poetry, so this is an opportunity to engage in a fun way with listening to, reading and writing poetry.
