Schools in England with a Year 7 (or equivalent) intake can now sign up for free reading for pleasure library packs, funded by Arts Council England and distributed by Booktrust.

The packs have selected books aimed at students aged 11-14 and are intended to boost library resources, broaden students reading and encourage them to try different genres and authors. The Special School Library Pack includes books and resources to support students with additional needs, while the School Library Pack is designed to cover a broad range of reading abilities and interests. Schools can only choose one pack. The School Library Pack includes 40 free books across three categories - future classics, reluctant readers and non-fiction. Schools are given five titles per category and multiple copies of the future classics. The Special School Library Pack for students with additional needs is a collection of ten books, selected by a panel of SEND practitioners, with themes and topics appropriate for 11-14 year olds. The pack includes a variety of accessible formats including sensory books, interactive books, picture books, dyslexia friendly books, short fiction, books with audio CDs and graphic novels. The titles included in each pack have not yet been announced. Alongside the selection of books, the packs include resources to help schools create engaging social reading experiences such as book clubs to make reading fun. The packs are funded by the Arts Council England, so are free for schools in England and will be delivered in January 2019. Sign up - via the link, below - is on a first- come-first-served basis.
