The Summer Reading Challenge is a popular activity to enjoy each summer. This year's challenge is called Marvellous Makers and it's all about creativity! From dance to drawing, junk modelling to music, there's something for everyone.
The annual challenge is organised by The Reading Agency alongside libraries across the country. This year's theme has been developed in partnership with a leading arts charity, Create.
During the six-week holidays, children aged 4 to 11 years old can collect rewards as they read books from the library. The challenge will feature inspiring books to read and awesome rewards to collect along the way. To complete the challenge, they will need to read six books of their choice - borrowed from the library - by Saturday 14 September.
The official Summer Reading Challenge book collection includes lots of recommendations. The Marvellous Makers book collection has been specially chosen by an expert group of readers for everybody taking part in the Summer Reading Challenge to enjoy. Lots of these titles will be available through your library service. Visit your local library's website or app to browse their online catalogue.
How to join and take part
The Summer Reading Challenge is free to take part and easy to join. From Saturday 6 July, children can sign up at their local library or online at The Reading Agency: Summer Reading Challenge.
Alongside the Summer Reading Challenge, there will be a range of events taking place during the summer holidays in libraries for children and families to enjoy. Visit your local library to find out what they are planning this summer.
