Laura Bates, author and founder of The Everyday Sexism Project, will be at Foyles on Tuesday 19th February, 6.30pm-7.30pm, talking about her new YA novel, The Burning, which tackles gender equality and social media.

Laura is the author of Everyday Sexism; Girl Up) and will be talking about her debut Young Adult novel, The Burning. When 15-year-old Anna moves to a small Scottish town with her mother she thinks there is nothing left to link her to her to what happened. But it isn't long before the whispers start again. Desperate for a distraction to escape the brutal bullying at school, Anna buries herself in a history project about Maggie - a young girl accused of witchcraft hundreds of years before - but as Anna finds herself drawn closer to Maggie's story, she can't help but notice it appears terrifyingly similar to her own. Laura will discuss visiting schools around the UK and talking to teenagers for the Everyday Sexism Project; her research into historical witch trails in Scotland; and campaigning for gender equality and how these experiences have helped to shape the novel. The event will be chaired by author and journalist Anna James and followed by a Q&A and a book signing. Tickets, priced 10, include a copy of The Burning (RRP 7.99). Venue: Level 6, Foyles 107 Charing Cross Road
