The winners of the Lollies (the Laugh Out Loud Awards) have been announced, with Best Medicine by Christine Hamill (Little Island Press) taking the Best Laugh Out Loud Book for 9-13 year olds.
The award for Best Laugh Out Loud Picture Book went to Oi Dog by Kes Gray and Jim Field (Hodder Children's Books); while Future Ratboy and the Invasion of the Nom Noms by Jim Smith (Egmont) has won the Best Laugh Out Loud Book for 6-8 year olds. David Solomon's My Gym Teacher is an Alien Overlord (Nosy Crow) won an additional award, the Laugh Out Loud Children's PopJam Award, awarded for the highest number of votes via the PopJam app. The winners were selected from a shortlist drawn up by a panel of judges. Teachers and their classes, parents and children were then encouraged to get involved over the following six months, reading and discussing the books and casting their vote for their favorites in each category to find the winning titles. The judges who selected the shortlists included head judge, author Michael Rosen; Nicolette Jones, Sunday Times Children's Book Editor and Katie Thistleton, presenter and host of the CBBC Children's Book Club. Michael Rosen said: "It's fantastic to see the huge engagement from schools and children for the Lollies. The books that children have chosen are all worthy winners but even more importantly, it's provided a focus for children to read for pleasure and discover the joy that funny books can bring." The Lollies award was created by Scholastic UK following the demise of the Roald Dahl prize in 2015.
