If you enjoy danger, adrenaline and big landscapes in films, then you're in for a treat with the new Mortal Engines film, coming to cinemas this December.

With cities that move, lots of action and fantastic effects, it's sure to be a big hit! The Mortal Engines film is based on Philip Reeve's series of the same name, and we'd recommend reading the series before you see it on screen. Mortal Engines is set in a post-apocalyptic world, hundreds of years after civilization was destroyed by a cataclysmic event. Now, cities are massive, predatory machines that move about the barren landscape, 'eating up' smaller cities. Hester Shaw (Hera Hilmar), emerges as the only one who can stop London - a giant, predator city on wheels - from devouring everything in its path. Feral, and fiercely driven by the memory of her mother, Hester joins forces with Tom Natsworthy (Robert Sheehan), an outcast from London, along with Anna Fang (Jihae), a dangerous outlaw with a bounty on her head. The first book in the quartet was published in 2001 so it's taken a while to get to screen as the screen writers - Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens and Peter Jackson - were busy with The Lord of the Rings films. Like those films, Mortal Engines has also been partly filmed in New Zealand. You can watch the official trailer here:
