Nominate your school librarian for an award

Nominations are open for the School Librarian of the Year Awards (Primary & Secondary), as well as an Enterprise and Community Award.

There is still time to nominate your school librarian for the School Librarian of the Year Award 2022, which for the first time will offer separate Primary and Secondary categories. The award is run by the SLA, which is also looking for nominations for Enterprise of the Year Award and its Community Award.

Here is some information about each of the awards, and the deadline for your nominations:

School Librarian of the Year award
Now split into a Primary (sponsored by Authors Abroad) and Secondary category (seeking sponsorship), this award is open to all those who work in school libraries, regardless of title. If you have someone in your school who is working to support pupils in their reading or research journeys, consider nominating them. It’s a fantastic way to show appreciation for what they do. If you have someone in another school that you turn to for advice or who you think is doing an amazing job, consider suggesting this award to them or their line manager. Many school library staff are reluctant to put themselves forward - they shouldn’t be. This is a supportive and celebratory process.

Nomination deadline: 8th November 2021

Enterprise of the Year Award
This award is for a one-off, progressive project or large scale event. This could be a refurbishment or redevelopment of a school library, a whole school event, or large scale research project. This award celebrates the events and projects which showcase the impact that school library staff can have.  Projects which took place since September 2018 are welcome as this is the first year for this award. Any projects which took place during the pandemic will be viewed in that context.

Nomination deadline: 4th December 2021

Community Award
This award celebrates the community spirit that is so often found in school libraries. Whether this is schools working together for a book award, bookshops supporting with events or PTAs raising funds to support them, we want to celebrate all the different collaborations that take place in school libraries. Events which took place since September 2018 are welcome as this is this first year for this award. Any events which took place during the pandemic will be viewed in that context.

Nomination deadline: 20th January 2022
