Schools invited to shadow poetry award

Schools can apply to shadow the CLiPPA poetry award, run by CLPE, which encourages schools to create a poetry classroom for three weeks in June. Free classroom resources are available.

Now in its 15th year, CLiPPA is the only award for published children's poetry in the UK. Primary schools from the UK and beyond are invited to take part in the shadowing scheme. All of the planning is done as teaching sequences are provided by CLPE. Films of the shortlisted poets performing and giving writing tips will also be available. The aim of the shadowing scheme is to encourage children to read, write and perform poetry over a focused three week period. This year, schools taking part can also apply for free class tickets to the Poetry Show and Winner Announcement at the National Theatre, London on 14 July 2017. Priority for these tickets will be given to the first schools to apply for scheme. To take part, schools will need to apply online via the link, below. Schools will also need to purchase a set of the shortlisted books, and information about discounted sets will be available in May. the CLiPPA 2017 shortlist and the teaching resources will be available from 22 May. The shadowing period will be focused on 5 - 22 June. There will also be a competition for the shadowing groups. If you would like to enter, you will need to send CLPE videos of your children performing from the shortlisted books as individuals, groups or as a class by 5pm on 22 June. Five winning shadowing groups will be picked from the videos to perform at the Award Ceremony at the National Theatre, participate in performance workshops and meet all of the shortlisted poets.
