The School Library Association has announced that its annual weekend conference 'Digital Education: Reading and Learning Opportunities' will be delivered online, due to the current restrictions.
The conference will take place during Friday 19th - Saturday 20th June 2020, and will include speakers Baasit Siddiqui, Stephen Heppell, Julian McDougall, Lucy Powrie, Neelam Parmar and Lucas Maxwell, who will reimagine their talks to be presented on the GoTo platform. A number of authors and publishers will talk and be part of panels, including authors Laura Coryton, Jenny Oliver, Vashti Hardy, The Brothers McLeod and Jenny Pearson who will showcase their latest books, while Lucy Powrie, Simon James Green, Lucy Cuthew and Anna Mainwaring discuss the online world in YA. A panel consisting of Christopher Lloyd, Miranda Krestovnikoff, Catherine Barr and Anna Claybourne will discuss beautiful nature information books. Wellbeing through Reading and Burnet News Club will introduce themselves and show you what they offer that will excite and engage students. Exhibitors will also be displaying their wares via demonstrations, videos, talks and chat, with the SLA's popular Exhibition Bingo card which delegates will complete for entry into the prize draw as well as a virtual goodie bag. The Norfolk Children's Book Centre will also be handling any book orders during the course of the conference. SLA CEO Alison Tarrant said, "Digital Education is something we are all grappling with, along with concerns about the long term impact of this period, and I am immensely thankful to our speakers for sharing their expertise both on the issues we face now, and the things we will want to consider once we've returned to 'normal'. "I am incredibly pleased to be able to offer some support to our publishers at this time as well: it has become abundantly clear that we all support each other, and that is something that will continue in abundance once this is over."
