The Lie Tree to be filmed

The film option for Frances Hardinge's Costa-winning book The Lie Tree has been bought by US film and TV producer Louise Goodsill, whose earlier film credits include Phantom of the Opera and An Education.

The Lie Tree, which was published by Pan Macmillan Children's Books in 2015, was awarded Costa Book of the Year in 2015 as well as the UKLA prize 12 to 16 category, the 2016 Boston Globe / Horn Book Fiction Award and the LA Times Book Prize for Young Adult Literature. It was also shortlisted for the 2016 Carnegie Medal and the Guardian Children's Fiction prize 2015. The Lie Tree is Hardinge's seventh novel. She said: "This is wonderful news, and it's lovely to know that my book is in such experienced hands." Goodsill said of the book, "Frances has written a beautiful and magical novel, and I am thrilled by the opportunity to bring this exceptional story to the screen."
