Diagon Alley is the theme for Harry Potter Book Night 2021, which will run for its seventh year, on Thursday 4th February 2021.

We first enter Diagon Alley in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone - 'There were shops selling robes, shops selling telescopes and strange silver instruments Harry had never seen before, windows stacked with barrels of bat spleens and eels' eyes, tottering piles of spell books, quills and rolls of parchment, potion bottles, globes of the moon...' Diagon Alley is a cobblestoned shopping area for wizards and witches, and it was Harry Potter's first introduction to the wizarding world.

On this bustling street the latest brooms are for sale, wizard authors give book signings and young Hogwarts students acquire their school supplies - cauldrons, quills, robes, wands and brooms. It is where Harry Potter meets Draco Malfoy for the first time, has Hedwig bought for him by Hagrid, and receives his first wand. Publisher Bloomsbury said Harry Potter Book Night 2020 is growing in popularity, with a 38% increase in the number of events registered to the event map compared to 2019; even Blue Peter featured the day with a classic make of Sorting cupcakes.

This year Bloomsbury will be increasing Harry Potter Book Night's digital presence to ensure that shops, libraries, schools, families and friends can still enjoy a magical evening together.
