World Book Day is making five special editions available to young people this year, including John Green's An Abundance of Katherines and Gangsta Rap by Benjamin Zephaniah.
The books will be priced at 2.50 each or 1.50 together with a WBD token. The five books cover a wide range of genres - fantasy, thriller, real life and romance - so there's something for everyone. The titles include: An Abundance of Katherines by John Green - When it comes to relationships, Colin Singleton's type is girls named Katherine. And when it comes to girls named Katherine, Colin is always getting dumped. 19 times, to be exact. On a road trip miles from home, Colin is on a mission to prove The Theorem of Underlying Katherine Predictability, which he hopes will predict the future of any relationship, avenge Dumpees everywhere, and finally win him the girl. Fly By Night by Frances Hardinge - This adventure story is set in re-imagined 18th-century England, trying to maintain peace after years of civil war and tyranny. 12-year-old orphan Mosca Mye is on the run with her loyal companion, a grumpy goose, and they are about to become the unlikely heroes of a radical revolution beginning in the city of Mandelion. Gangsta Rap by Benjamin Zephaniah - Ray has trouble at home, and he has trouble at school - until he's permanently excluded and ends up sleeping on the floor of a record shop. What happens to a boy like Ray? If he's lucky, maybe he gets a chance to shine... This is the story of three boys who aren't easy. They don't fit in. They seem to attract trouble. But they know what they want, and they've got the talent to back it up. I Have No Secrets by Penny Joelson - 14-year-old Jemma has severe cerebral palsy. Unable to communicate or move, she relies on her family and carer for everything. She has a sharp brain and inquisitive nature, and knows all sorts of things about everyone. But when she is confronted with a terrible secret, she is utterly powerless to do anything. Though that might be about to change... Summoner: The Novice by Taran Matharu - Fletcher was nothing more than a humble blacksmith's apprentice, when a chance encounter leads to the discovery that he has the ability to summon demons from another world. Chased from his village for a crime he did not commit, he must travel with his demon to the Vocans Academy, where the gifted are trained in the art of summoning. But he will also be caught in the middle of powerful forces, with nothing but his demon Ignatius to help him. You can find out more about each book here:
