Wicked Writers: Be the Change writing competition, which runs until 28 February 2025, is a persuasive writing competition inspired by the themes of Wicked the musical, which gives pupils a chance to have their voice heard and to win some exciting prizes in the process.
The competition is run by the National Literacy Trust in partnership with Wicked Active Learning, the cultural and social education programme for the UK production of the stage musical Wicked.
Entry details: Students aged 9 to 14 are invited to write persuasively about a positive change they would like to see in their local community. This could be anything from environment to mental health to social justice - it just needs to be local.
The judging panel for the competition includes Cressida Cowell, bestselling author of How to Train Your Dragon and former Children's Laureate; Manjeet Mann, award-winning author of The Crossing and Run, Rebel; and Jonathan Douglas, CEO of the NLT.
There are also free, supporting classroom resources to help entrants, including curriculum-linked activities to support student's persuasive writing skills.
Prizes include class trips to see Wicked at London's Apollo Victoria Theatre, an online writing workshop with Manjeet Mann for your school, book bundles and publication in an anthology.
