Winner of the Young Creators Award

We are thrilled to announce that Max and Me by Thomas (aged 5) from New Scotland Hill Primary School in Sandhurst has won this year's Young Creators Award for the ReadingZone Picture Book Competition 2017, and we have three Runners-Up! You can download the winning picture book via the link, below.

Judge Neal Layton said of his entry, "What can I say? This is a simple story brilliantly told. I especially liked the big reveal of the mystery friend Max. Lovely drawings too, I particularly liked the fine drawing of the moon, and trees. And although I could see all the hard work that went into this book, like all good books, when I read it, it flows perfectly and felt effortlessly. Well done Thomas!" New Scotland Hill Primary School will receive 50 printed copies of their winning picture book, supported by publisher Hachette Children's Books, as well as a selection of ten picture books for their school library. We are also delighted to announce the Runners-Up for the Young Creators Award as follows: Growing Vegetable Soup by Flamingo Class (ages 5) Dulwich college, Singapore Neal Layton said, "A lovely idea and great example of how simple illustrations can still convey an lot. I also liked the way the children had done their best writing without correction. If the text was sometimes hard to follow, their drawings got the meaning across, so the children's phonetic spelling could be understood. I loved the ending, 'next year we can do it again'. All in all, great work from all the five year olds involved! The Hungry Ducks By Shreya Preyesh (age 6) St Anthony's Infant School, Manchester Neal Layton said, "Lots of detail and careful observation went into these colourful drawings. The story also has a nice narrative arc to it, and a happy, quacky ending for the 'kids'." Flushed Away By Badger Class (ages 6-7) St Stephen's Infant School, Canterbury Neal Layton said, "This twisty-turny story will have you on the edge of your seat! I was also especially impressed with its creative language and use of different adjectives. Who would have thought a trip to the toilets in Asda could turn into such an exciting adventure!"
