Fancy the idea of script writing as a career? Or do you just enjoy writing your own stories? Here's a great competition from First News to write a short monologue or dialogue.

The competition has been launched to celebrate publication of the new book, 'Waiting for Callback: Take Two', by Honor and Perdita Cargill (Simon & Schuster). Shortlisted entrants will have their work read by a Simon & Schuster editor or the editor of First News. The subject can be anything that makes you excited - funny, sad, dark, bizarre. Follow the link, below, for some great creative writing tips and entry details. The monologue should be no longer than 400 words while the duologue should be no longer than 450 words (including directions etc). There are two categories, for those aged 10-13 and 14-16 (go by your age on the day that you send in the entry by email). Entries must be submitted by email (see below) by midnight on 14th April 2017. Schools that submit entries for their pupils will also be entered in a draw for the chance to win a fabulous bundle of Simon & Schuster titles for their school library.
