This is a guide to choosing a pet that has been completely turned on its head. A Beginner's Guide to Choosing the Perfect Pet recommends all the most dangerous and unsuitable pets - the crocodile is quiet and peaceful, whilst regular pets are trouble. The rabbits are even plotting world domination!
With marvellous illustrations by Tommy Doyle this book is a very funny take on choosing a pet, with an excellent twist at the end. It made me chuckle all the way through and much of the story is told through the pictures as well as the words. The people looking on at the unsuitable pets are showing what they are really like, whereas the children are oblivious.
I found it particularly appealing that the author Ali Rutstein has a background in science and zoology writing but prefers to write picture books. Having not read any of her books before, I must say this one has made me want to search out her other titles!
