A Pandemonium of Parrots is an amusing and unusual information book that will easily engage young readers. Each double page spread focuses on a particular group of animals such as: beetles, frogs, camels and parrots. The Hui Skipp illustrations show the animals in different situations and stances with each page having its own colour palette relating to the specific animal. Each group of animals is categorised by a unique collective noun, such as: a bouquet of hummingbirds and an army of frogs. After the collective nouns information is given in a short rhyming verse and further information is contained in a glossary at the end of the book. The collection of animals on each page are not shown in exactly the same way and this is the key to engaging the young readers, as on each page they are asked different questions relating to the animals. These questions will encourage the young reader to look closely at the illustrations in order to answer the questions. A Pandemonium of Parrots would be a useful addition to a Key Stage 1 reading corner as it would encourage children to share and discuss the book together.
