Instantly eye-catching and appealing, A Year Full of Celebrations and Festivals offers a wonderful collection of 'over 90' events from around the world.
Organised by season, the book is a real celebration of the joy shared by those who come together for a whole host of reasons.
For the teacher, this offers an invaluable resource: for assemblies, lessons, general knowledge, the class / school library - it is full of fascinating facts and information to enrich and develop awareness of others. Many children will see their culture and traditions valued here, offering a starting point for discussion.
A wonderful range of religions and cultures is included some of which will be familiar, e.g. Chinese New Year, Eid, May Day, but many which may not be, e.g. Pongal or Jokkmokk Market?
Each is carefully explained in a lively, positive tone, highlighting the joy of these occasions for those involved. Additional snippets of text are also dotted throughout the illustrations and a glossary of terms is included at the end. The book is also the perfect starting point for using maps and atlases to locate many of the places mentioned in the text
Religious and secular, ancient and modern occasions are included. Some are grouped as a theme - carnival, water, ice and snow, animal etc - making for some interesting comparisons. The illustrations are bright and full of colour and energy.
