Reviews

Hayley

Totally Chaotic History: Roman Britain Gets Rowdy! is an exciting new book by historian Greg Jenner with excellent interruptions from Dr Emma Southon. This book is designed to introduce the reader to the total chaos of Roman Britain.

The layout of this book is a work of genius, it puts the reader in control of the information they want to learn about. The 'accuracy alarms' that are written by Dr Emma Southon are scribbled all over the key content like page notes and they add to the quirkiness of the book. As a reader, we learn about 'What life in Britain was like', and how scheming emperors were met with rebellions.  I really enjoyed how the author has used text messaging and self-guides to tell the events that unfolded during the Roman's reign over Britain.

Totally Chaotic History: Roman Britain Gets Rowdy! is full of historical knowledge and written in a very entertaining way; it incorporates historical inquiry in a chaotic journey, taking the reader on a chronological tour through historical Roman events. The illustrations by Rikin Parekh are comical and will draw the reader in.

Children will thoroughly enjoy reading about Roman Britain's brilliant beginning until its epic end. This book will teach them about core historical skills that link to the national curriculum in an exciting way. It would be an excellent accompaniment to the teaching of Roman Britain in KS2.
