Ballet Kids

Ballet Kids is a gentle introduction to ballet that confounds gender expectations and captures the magic of dancing and performance for the very young. A little boy and his friends gather together in their dance class to learn some moves which are clearly explained and technically accurate. Everyone is getting ready for their first performance - The Nutcracker - and Holly Sterling captures the excitement of Thomas beautifully when he chooses the outfit for the sugar plum fairy.

This celebration of dancing is inspired by the author's time learning ballet as a child. In her inclusive illustrations, Holly Sterling captures the magic and joy of the characters in the story. This story challenges gender expectations and promotes an acceptance that encourages all aspiring dancers. After reading it to a group of Reception children, all of the children were keen to listen to the Nutcracker music and wanted to practise some of the moves they had seen in the book. Sparkly material was also requested!
