Synopsis

Disney's Brave meets Dav Pilkey's Dog Man in this side-splitting graphic novel about a young girl who has to rescue her fellow warriors from the evil villain Witch Head before he destroys the world! Perfect for readers aged 6+ and fans of Bunny Vs Monkey.

Barb is a Berzerker, one of a group of warriors sworn to protect the land of Bailiwick from monsters.  But the fearsome crew soon meet their match in the evil villain Witch Head. Using power from his magical sword, he tricks the Zerks and takes them captive... All except Barb, who escapes, taking Witch Head's sword with her.

Together, with her best friend, Porkchop the yeti, Barb must free her fellow warriors so they can stop Witch Head from taking over the land. On the way, she'll battle vampire goat fiends, snotgoblins and a giant with serious foot odour issues (but please don't mention that to him - he's very sensitive about it)!

The deeper Barb gets into her quest, the harder it is to keep the blade's awesome power under control . . . Will she be able to rescue her fellow warriors before it's too late?

Sharon

'Barb in Barb the Brave is amazing, she can do anything and isn't afraid to try. I think I'd quite like to be a bit braver, like her, and try things I haven't done before. Barb shows us that people who we don't expect to, can turn out to be really good friends. She is so cool.' H aged 9

Barb the Brave is a wild graphic novel by Dan and Jason. It is packed full of action, racing the reader through the adventures of a girl called Barb. Barb is considered by her tribe, the Bezerkers, as someone who should remain behind (because she is a girl) but, of course, she doesn't listen. Thank goodness she doesn't. Her tribe end up in real trouble with the Witch Head and Barb overcomes many obstacles to save the day.

Class 11 love graphic novels and this adventure has really helped with their verbal story telling. We have linked it with the adventures of Jason and the Argonauts and the Odyssey, with our main characters having to overcome several hurdles to achieve their goal. Graphic novels are a super way to encourage less confident readers into a tale, and this book does that in heaps. It's a rip-roaring story which is great fun. I recommend this for age 7+.
